Deck The Halls and Trim The Trees

It all began at the tree farm this year. When we were little both Brock and I remember going with our families to Miller's to cut down the family tree. We wanted the boys to have those memories too so this year we packed 'em up and headed out there.
Daddy told stories of when he was little with his parents and all of his brothers. He told Adam how they always got 2 trees. A big one for the house, and a small one like the one in this picture to take to Grandpa Gary's classroom. Adam kept looking for the perfect one for Grandpa Gary. We talk about Heaven and our special angels quite a bit, but sometimes it breaks my heart when his little 3 yr old brain can't quite understand it.
Adam was on the hunt from the minute we got out of the truck. What a huge help he is! He ran down every row, touched every tree. This kid is so into Christmas and the whole holiday season that it makes me the proudest Mama!
As is his laid back style, Jace just enjoyed being with us all and taking in all of the new sights.
And after looking at tree upon tree upon tree.... we found it!
The boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Adam could not wait to get home to decorate not only the tree, but the rest of the house as well. Right after we took another stroll through the Christmas shop and had another cup of hot cider. Bubba loves his cider.
We got right to work when we got home. All of the tubs had been opened the night before (Thanksgiving night) and Adam knew what he wanted to put where. He even saved a small box of ornaments to put on the small tree downstairs.
The boys did most of the trimming themselves. It is quite funny as when you look at the tree head on, you can see where they put the majority of their ornaments. Dad and I put the glass and breakables up quite a bit higher. As you can see this was necessary this year as Big Baby is now upright and completely mobile. More on his escapades to follow.
The entire house got the Christmas treatment, but it looks as though Christmas exploded in Adam's room. Although, as you can see above we still have Easter and Halloween up in there as well. What can I say, we have a very festive boy!
As we sat back and looked all around at our handy work, Brock and I talked about all of our Christmas that he and I spent together. Even the ones where we were at each other's homes with family we didn't really know, waaaay back in HS and college. We both decided how thankful we are for those times, for wanting to make the other happy as we both got to know people that left us too soon. If it hadn't been for the fact that we wanted to be together every waking minute I wouldn't have gotten to know my father-in-law and he his brother-in-law. We are thankful for the Christmases we have spent since being married and having kids and all of the wonderful family members that make Christmas one of our favorite times of the year. Basically, we are just thankful and know how very very blessed we are.
