Our Bigg Time is 3 whole years old! I am in awe of this kid. He is so incredibly intelligent, sweet, sensitive, and oh so ornery all at the same time. Not to mention he is quite the looker, can you blame me for being so in love with this child. Mama's boy is now 36lbs (86%) and 40in (94%). Dr. Smith has increased her "guestimate" on his future height to about 6'4". We'll take that! As you can see, he is still very much into animals and he asks daily for a new pet of some sort. Some days his request in normal, another puppy for Bruce to play with, another kitty to add to his collection. Some days he gets very creative asking for an ostrich so he can ride him to school, an ermine (weasel) because they are very long and funny when they run. Inseresting choices, Bud!
Meal time has gotten very interesting at the Haselby household. We have polar opposites here as Jace will eat anything we put in front of him, Adam has turned into quite a picky eater. I take that back. He has turned into quite the OPINIONATED eater. He has an opinion on what plate he'll use, fork, spoon, and cup. Exactly how many bites he will take and if he will even eat at all. We have gotten creative as of late turning our ordinary meats into "dino meat", "monkey meat", and "pirate meat". All of which turn the eater into that particular being. We often spend our meals growing and roaring or "arg-ing". Our veggies are mashed up into the guts of some animal or imaginary creature. We have even colored scrambled eggs green for "green eggs and ham". Most times these ploys work, some times he makes them up on his own. We don't care what it's called, as long as some of it gets in his belly!
I read in one of my books that "the 3-year old will ask more questions than the district attorney". This made me laugh as it hit the nail right on the head. How true! Adam has always been an inquisitive kid, but now he wants to know everything about everything! Since he started preschool he has tons to say as well. Stories and riddles and so many songs. He has always been verbal, but he vocabulary has tripled. There are several phrases or words that we hear often and make us smile...
"That's not quite right" can be heard about anything he is not satisfied with.
He is our biggest cheerleader and often says "look at you, great job!" or "beautiful, Mama" "Perfect Dad"!
A gogo stick is a pogo stick.
Hot scotch or pot scotch is hop scotch.
Skins are onions and he HATES them.
A bungle bee is a bumble bee and a corilla is a gorilla.
He says cumbrella for umbrella and he says push 'em play when his DVD needs to be started.
He knows the correct terms and pronunciations for all of these, but he loves to get a rise out of his dad and that he does! Brock can correct him until he is blue in the face and Adam will continue with HIS way until dad is not around! He has also coined the term "Bacon Butt" for his little brother. I did not for the longest time understand what he and Brock were saying until I finally asked. Bacon Butt is when Jacer has a poopy diaper and has smooshed is up the back by bouncing on his butt. OK. Whatever guys. And then I got it while taking JB's diaper off before a bath. Adam says, "See, Mom. Bacon Butt." Ahh, yes. I got it!
Adam has a wonderful imagination. He can play and play with anything around for hours. He still loves his tractors and trains and has recently really gotten into Hot Wheels. He will race and race for hours as long as Bruce and Jacer leave him to it. He loves his books and we are still going to the library every Monday. Adam has become quite the little gamer. He has traded his evening Nick Jr and Sprout for nickjr.com. He can get himself on the Internet and to the site. He can get to the games and navigate through them like a pro. Only thing that drives us crazy is he is constantly clicking on the ads on the sidebar. So when we go to close him out at bedtime there about 20 tabs pulled up!
Adam likes to do things on his own. He has really gotten into buckling himself into the car, putting his shoes on, etc. The one thing I would love for him to really get this month is putting his pants on. For some reason he can't get them on. He can pull them up, but getting them started is a task! He has started wanting to "read" to us at night. We will read whichever books were chosen for the night and he will want to read one back. This may be my favorite part of bedtime, his stories are ALWAYS better than the originals! He also likes to make stories up. He will say "Mama, tell me a story." I begin with the old Once Upon A Time. At this point he takes over, he pauses for me to add a little something here or there and then takes the lead again. We have come up with some pretty silly, memorable stories.
Adam is still very into family and friends. He loves to visit his Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He also loves to visit their animals! Adam is obsessed with going to his Grammy's house and loves to spend the night there. He is also very fond of going to visit with all of his Great Grandparents, and what a lucky little boy to have so many around! Adam has made many new friends at school and at library days, but his favorites are still Mary Kate and Stella. And of course their Mama, "Kafey"! He LOVES Kafey!
When my days get super busy with cleaning laundry and places we "have to be", Adam always brings me back to calm. He will be sitting in my chair or on the couch or even just on the floor and look at me and smile. I'll ask him what he is so smiley about and he shrugs his shoulders. "Nofing". Sometimes as an adult I have a hard time smiling at "nofing". I forget that I am so lucky. I am healthy, my boys are healthy, my husband is healthy, we are all happy. We have everything we need and lots we simply just want. Why can't I remember to just smile at nothing. I guess that's one of the reasons God blessed me with Adam. To remind me how wonderful everything in my life is, how wonderful just "nofing" is.
Oh my gosh, that last pic makes me smile.
